Seven Super Shots

My lovely friend, Amber, over at The Usual Bliss, nominated me to take part in HostelBookers 7 Super Shots.  In this challenge (it was challenging!) I chose seven photos that I’ve taken for each of these categories:

  • A photo that…takes my breath away
  • A photo that…makes me laugh or smile
  • A photo that…makes me dream
  • A photo that…makes me think
  • A photo that…makes my mouth water
  • A photo that…tells a story
  • A photo that…I am most proud of (aka my worthy of National Geographic shot)

I went through my near 5000ish photos in my library and here’s what I came up with.  (Keep in mind that I use a point and shoot (Nikon P100) and I’m super amateur).

Takes my breath away:  This is my husband on top of Table Mountain in Cape Town.  We hiked up the mountain in less than two hours (because we are hard-core MT hikers) and I nearly died of leg-exhaustion! I snapped this photo shortly after interrupting a couple of lovers that were doing the deed on the edge of one of the cliffs.  I don’t blame them, the light was perfect, the temperature was moderate, and the view…sigh.  You can see Robben Island off to the right (where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned).

Makes me smile:  I took this photo in Uganda.  A local youth initiative group coordinates traditional performances put on by local kids for tourists.  After the dancing and singing they sell their own little handmade items.  These children were having so much fun as you can see and their joy was contagious!  This was one of my favorite moments from the entire trip.
Makes me dream:  This photo makes me dream of the baby that I WILL adopt one day.  This little girl lives at an orphanage in Uganda that we volunteered at.  I wanted to take her home so bad that it still hurts.
Makes me think:  This image makes me think of all the times growing up that my family and I enjoyed sunsets and sunrises together.  We were constantly outside working or playing on the ranch.  My mom would always tell me that God is an artist and he paints each sunset just for me.
Makes my mouth water:  Have I ever mentioned how much I LOVE beans and rice?  I first got addicted to them when I traveled to Costa Rica in 2006…They call their everyday beans and rice, Gallo Pinto.  This photo was actually taken the second time I was in Costa Rica for my honeymoon.  This was breakfast:  Gallo Pinto, fried plantains, chopped squash, scrambled eggs, and fresh watermelon juice…AY AY AY!
Tells a story:  This is my dad feeding one of his girls, #110.  The short story is that I’ve always felt inwardly threatened by the love my dad has for his cows.  Though it sounds silly and ridiculous, I’m not actually kidding.  Growing up I felt that he always made them his number one priority, and he still does.  I do love this photo though, it doesn’t make me angry or anything.  It just really captures the essence of my father…feeding his ‘girls’ out of his hand.
Photo I’m most proud of, aka National Geographic worthy:  I’m not sure this would make the NatGeo cut, but I am proud of it.  I am blessed to have been this close to such magnificent and rare creatures in their natural habitat, and that I got to see a mother and her child.  I took this photo when we went gorilla trekking in Uganda.
I would love to see 7 Super Shots from these fabulous ladies…
