Seven Super Shots
My lovely friend, Amber, over at The Usual Bliss, nominated me to take part in HostelBookers 7 Super Shots. In this challenge (it was challenging!) I chose seven photos that I’ve taken for each of these categories:
- A photo that…takes my breath away
- A photo that…makes me laugh or smile
- A photo that…makes me dream
- A photo that…makes me think
- A photo that…makes my mouth water
- A photo that…tells a story
- A photo that…I am most proud of (aka my worthy of National Geographic shot)
I went through my near 5000ish photos in my library and here’s what I came up with. (Keep in mind that I use a point and shoot (Nikon P100) and I’m super amateur).
Takes my breath away: This is my husband on top of Table Mountain in Cape Town. We hiked up the mountain in less than two hours (because we are hard-core MT hikers) and I nearly died of leg-exhaustion! I snapped this photo shortly after interrupting a couple of lovers that were doing the deed on the edge of one of the cliffs. I don’t blame them, the light was perfect, the temperature was moderate, and the view…sigh. You can see Robben Island off to the right (where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned).
Makes me smile: I took this photo in Uganda. A local youth initiative group coordinates traditional performances put on by local kids for tourists. After the dancing and singing they sell their own little handmade items. These children were having so much fun as you can see and their joy was contagious! This was one of my favorite moments from the entire trip.
Makes me dream: This photo makes me dream of the baby that I WILL adopt one day. This little girl lives at an orphanage in Uganda that we volunteered at. I wanted to take her home so bad that it still hurts.
Makes me think: This image makes me think of all the times growing up that my family and I enjoyed sunsets and sunrises together. We were constantly outside working or playing on the ranch. My mom would always tell me that God is an artist and he paints each sunset just for me.
Makes my mouth water: Have I ever mentioned how much I LOVE beans and rice? I first got addicted to them when I traveled to Costa Rica in 2006…They call their everyday beans and rice, Gallo Pinto. This photo was actually taken the second time I was in Costa Rica for my honeymoon. This was breakfast: Gallo Pinto, fried plantains, chopped squash, scrambled eggs, and fresh watermelon juice…AY AY AY!
Tells a story: This is my dad feeding one of his girls, #110. The short story is that I’ve always felt inwardly threatened by the love my dad has for his cows. Though it sounds silly and ridiculous, I’m not actually kidding. Growing up I felt that he always made them his number one priority, and he still does. I do love this photo though, it doesn’t make me angry or anything. It just really captures the essence of my father…feeding his ‘girls’ out of his hand.
Photo I’m most proud of, aka National Geographic worthy: I’m not sure this would make the NatGeo cut, but I am proud of it. I am blessed to have been this close to such magnificent and rare creatures in their natural habitat, and that I got to see a mother and her child. I took this photo when we went gorilla trekking in Uganda.
I would love to see 7 Super Shots from these fabulous ladies…

Have you been to costa rica? It is one of my most favoritest places
I have! Absolutely loved it.
It’s just one of those places that steals your heart I think
You did it! I’m so glad you did. These are amazing… and I know how hard it is to peel through so many photos for “the best”! Remember, I did the “second place” list…?

That’s right! I forgot about that! I may have to do a runners up post. It was fun though and thanks for nominating me

These are just amazing and the little girl is just adorable, as sual fantastic photo’s you have such a good eye and are able to capture the moment at hand.
The rice and beans you show here, in Jamacia it’s called Rice and Peas and forms part of the traditional Sunday dinner.
Oh I would love to try the Jamaican variety!! When were you in Jamaica?
My family are Jamacian and we eat as well as English traditianl Jamacian foods.
How cool! I did not know this about you!
Whoa and the first picture is beautiful! Every photo you share here tells a story very nicely.
Thanks! The first one is probably my fave

Thanks MJ!!
Beautiful just beautiful…and table mountain is truly amazing! Lovely photos…dont stop shooting!
Thank you Stephanie! I don’t plan on stopping, it’s way too much fun
Amazing shots, I especially like the sunset and your thoughts around it.
thanks…i still believe that, even though it sounds a little silly and i will probably tell the same thing to my future children.
My favorite is the second….totally captures the spirit of what’s going on! So nice to meet your blog
Welcome! I’m glad you’re here
Thank you for sharing, all of them made me smile, think, dream and shared a story…the story of you. About the “being an amateur with a point and shoot camera” a photographer once told me, over a pedicure and wine, that you just put what you love in the frame and you cannot go “wrong”. That stuck with me and, honestly, works an any facet of life. Write about what you love, eat what you love, move in the forms you love (I love to dance and hike) etc. Be well, Tobi!
Oh I love that! “put what you love in the frame” Thanks for pass that on!
Sure
And you were right about the book, Renaissance Soul. I’ve ordered it and am curious where it will take me, thank you for passing that along. Be well, Tobi!
Oh great!! Let me know what you think.

Seriously great photos.. I’ve been back here a couple times now and was wondering what type of camera you used.. great job.
I use a Nikon Coolpix P100. It’s not super great. It’s not an SLR, which I would like to upgrade to. But it does better than a point & shoot! And thank you
I have a sony cyber shot which is great for a point and shoot but I have to edit many of my photos to make them “the best”i can.. great photos regardless..
I do some editing too
I would love to take a photo class sometime, in conjunction with getting a camera upgrade!
I’m thinking of that for my next job location. There’s actually photo tours offered in Nepal.. so I’m trying to gear up for it.
The above lady brought me here and I’m glad she did. Love both the photos and the story telling.
Awesome!! Welcome!!

Amazing shots! You have some real photographic talent!
Thanks! It’s fun!
Can’t beat a good sunrise or sunset! I love all the brilliant colours you see when the sun is going down…
I am always amazed by both! Most of the time pictures don’t do them any justice.
